Crowns and Bridges

Dental Crowns and bridges are cosmetic dentistry procedures used to restore damaged or missing teeth. These restorative procedures use prosthetic devices to return your smile to its natural state. A crown is used when the tooth structure is damaged or fractured. A bridge is used when one or more teeth are missing.

What is a crown?

Crowns are often used when the surface of the tooth becomes too damaged to be fixed by a filling or other dental technique, but the root structure remains strong. They are tooth shaped caps that are designed to be placed over an existing tooth or dental implant that can be made out of all porcelain, all ceramic, or porcelain-over-metal. We custom make them to match the color of the surrounding teeth, so that they look and feel like natural teeth.

Why would I need a crown?

  • To cover misshapen or discolored teeth
  • To add support and keep damaged teeth from breaking
  • To cover a dental implant

What is a bridge?

When a tooth is missing, crowns can be used as anchors on the surrounding teeth, with a porcelain tooth attached to “bridge” the gap. Both fixed and removable bridges are available for patients. Fixed Dental bridges are often recommended because they provide a natural fit and are more stable since they have to be cemented in place.

Why would I need a bridge?

  • To fill in the space left by missing teeth
  • To allow you to speak and chew properly
  • To help prevent natural teeth from shifting out of place
