Multiple Teeth Replacement
Replacing Multiple Teeth
When a person has multiple teeth missing, a fixed bridge on anchored implants is often used as a permanent correction to the problem. This method of teeth replacement will provide a more stable and secure solution compared to traditional dental bridges. The end result will look and feel like your natural teeth.
What can I expect during the procedure?
Prior to the procedure, your periodontist will take X-rays or a CT scan to determine if there is enough bone and gum tissue for the implants, as well as where the implants should be located. Before the surgery begins, you will be given a local anesthetic to minimize any discomfort. Small holes will be drilled into the bone where the implants will be placed. The titanium implants, that looks similar to a screw, will then be placed. To create a secure anchor, the implant will stay in place for 3-6 months in order to allow time for it to fuse to the surrounding bone through a process called osseointegration. A temporary cover will be placed to cover the implants. After the osseointegration process is complete, a permanent bridge will be placed over the implants.
What is the recovery time for this procedure?
You may experience minor swelling or bleeding immediately following the surgery, but that should go away within 2-3 days. You may be prescribed prescription pain medication for the first couple days following the procedure. Over-the-counter pain medication should suffice afterwards. Soft foods should be eaten for only the first week following surgery.
Benefits of multiple teeth implants:
- Noticeable cosmetic improvement
- Ability to chew and bite naturally
- Preserves facial structure and integrity
